Library Day

One of the things Lauren and I like to do every week is make a trip to the library. Lauren has gotten better at understanding the concept of being quiet there (although she still needs to be reminded often) and she is starting to enjoy all of the books. They have a kids corner set up for little ones, with pillows and pads on the floor and baskets of board books. Lauren spent a fair amount of time sitting and "reading" this morning and actually gave mommy a chance to look around, too. :)

She has also gotten MUCH better at listening while we read to her. She used to just like turning the pages of books on her own, and then she wanted to point and identify the pictures. But now I can sit her on my lap and actually read the story to her, and she listens! Great improvement for this busy toddler. So that leads me to a question... What are your favorite kids books? We have several from when Gary and I were kids, and we're checking out a lot from the library, too, but I'm always looking for more. So what would you recommend? I know many of you read this blog and don't usually comment, which is completely understandable. But I'd love to hear from all of you! I know we all have childhood memories of our favorite books, so what's yours?

Hi Carolyn,

I do read your blog often. Lauren is still probably a little young for these, but they are "topsy-turvy" books. (http://www.readingwell.com/pg-topsy%20turvy.html) They are really beautifully illustrated, AND you read it one way, then flip it over and there is a completly different story.

The stories themselves are good. They are about "life lessons" if you will. Sharing, helping out, being scarred, etc. All of the characters are bugs, which is cute too.

I started out having these read to me, and then when I could read them, I would read them over and over and over. Good times.

I'm glad to see that you all are doing well.

I loved Goodnight Moon when I was little - my dad would read it to me before bedtime and then at the end of the story we'd say "goodnight" to some of the things in my room.

Also, The Giving Tree. Polar Express at Christmas time.

Maybe more later! :)

"The Gas We Pass"

Seriously!

We seriously need "The Gas We Pass." Isaac loves pretty much all his books. His favorite ones are the ocean books. He likes this book called "HUG" and "I love you through and through." And he also likes those little golden books which I didn't think he'd like but he does. My favorite books when I was a kid were "The monster at the end of this book" "The Barenstein Bears" "Corduroy" and "the velvateen rabbit." What a great question, what were yours?
