Plus, it was very 1986, with an old fluorescent lightbox, orange oak cabinets (that were dirty and falling apart), and nasty 25-year-old linoleum.

Our first step was to lighten up the room with a Solatube, which I shared with you last year.

That was a huge improvement, but we still needed to bring the room into the 21st century. We actually liked the blue tile, since it gave the room a "custom" look that we couldn't get from a builder-basic countertop from Home Depot. And we were definitely working on a tight budget, so the blue tile stayed for the counter and shower. But almost everything else got a face lift, with all of the work being done completely by us. And here is our beautiful bathroom after!
And here's a list of everything we accomplished:
*Had the Solatube installed.
*Painted the walls a pale blue.
*Replaced the lightbox with a pretty new light fixture.
*Added a white frame around the large mirror.
*Ripped out the old linoleum and installed new flooring.
*Refaced the cabinet by adding beadboard on the side (one of my favorite things!), painting the cabinet frame white, and buying new doors for the cabinets and drawer fronts.
*Installed new baseboards and trim. (It's amazing what a difference the little things can make!)
*Replaced the hardware, shower head, and towel bars (some of which we did when we moved in).
*Cleaned and resealed the grout.
*Replaced the toilet.
*Added some new towels and accessories (the fun part!).

A lot of work, but well worth the result. We love it! Here's one more photo, since everyone loves a good Before and After--right?! :)

Next stop: the kitchen! Here's hoping I'm back in August with a beautiful After photo to go with this Before:

I'm thinking white cabinets, wood (looking) floors, white subway tile, light granite counters... Can't wait!
