A Big Girl Room

We truly spread out Lauren's birthday celebrations this year, and ended the weekend after Thanksgiving with the biggest surprise: a room makeover! We had gradually been updating a few things in her room, including a new dresser (since the old one was actually a changing table) and some new bedding (since her brother took a pair of scissors to the old ones--ahem). But the biggest issue was her desk, as our now 7-year-old was still using a toddler desk!

We had purchased a desk at the same time we got the matching dresser, and hid it in the garage until her birthday. Grandma and Grandpa Weyel were visiting for the weekend, so we enlisted the help of Grandma to get Lauren out of the house for a few hours. Grandpa stayed with us to help with the "makeover" and had a little helper of his own. :)

After a few hours of madly dashing about, rearranging and adding finishing touches, we were ready for the big reveal!

Of course, the biggest surprise was the "big girl desk."

And a surprise it was!

Thankfully, she loved her new desk, and the entire room. I love it, too, although it's always a little sad to see your child move on to the next stage, knowing they can never go back. But Lauren is my sunshine and I delight in seeing her in every stage. And she knows she will always be my baby girl!

We ended the day (and ALL the birthday celebrations!) with Lauren's favorite meal: hamburgers. Some things never change!
