The Dreaded Word...

...colic.

Jonathan has become increasingly fussy over the last week or so, and the last three nights have been more screaming than sleeping. Lauren was a fairly difficult newborn and infant, but nothing this extreme. She would have crying fits in the evenings and hated to nap during the day--but she was a great sleeper at night, so at least we could get some rest and prepare ourselves for another day. Jonathan is not soothed by much. He won't take a pacifier, doesn't like to be put down anywhere, and seems to be very gassy. I'm trying everything I can think of, but things just keep getting worse.

I'm announcing this on the internet for the simple reason of asking for your prayers. I don't really know what can "fix" this except an act of God. :) And to let you know that if you don't see or hear from me for the next three months, it's probably because I'm too exhausted to leave the house or pick up the phone...

Oh my dear friend. I'm feeling exhausted with you at the thought. I will definitely be praying. Please let me know if I can take Lauren on a Monday or Friday to give you a teeny bit of a break. I'd also be happy to come hold a crying Jonathan so that you can take a long nap. Anything!

Hayden had aweful colic too. Here's some things that worked (sometimes) for us. It's at least worth a try:
1. Car rides (even at 2 am)
2. Blow dryers and vaccums (the noise calmed him- strange I know)
3. Buckle him in the car seat and set him on top of a dryer that's turned on (as long as he won't rattle off of course).
Note: None of these are eco-friendly solutions but I think you get a free pass when they are under 6 months.

Oh I'm sorry. When my little brother had colic we used one of the vibrating bouncers...that and the car were the only things to sooth him. We also took a hard peppermint candy and put it in a bottle of warm water, it was supposed to help with the gas. You and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.
