Our Giant Mess

So many of you lovely people have asked, "How's the kitchen remodel coming?" The answer is slow, painful, and messy. But still quite confident it will be worth it in the end! We had our new countertops installed last week, we (finally!) painted the last coat of paint last night, and we have our new appliances sitting in the garage, waiting to be installed. When you only have nights and weekends to work on things, it takes a lot of time. And when your children take delight in messing up the rest of the house while you're working on the kitchen... well, you end up with a home that looks like this.

I gave Lauren the camera this afternoon and told her to document the mess. Because, although I would probably be horrified if you came to the door and saw all of this in person, it seemed appropriate to share online. :) This will certainly deter you from ever attempting a kitchen remodel of your own, and give a great explanation as to why we haven't invited anyone over in two weeks. So thanks for asking, and I will be sure to share some beautiful after photos just as soon as they're ready!

By the way, while Gary was working on the kitchen (and taking care of a grumpy Jonathan) this past weekend, Lauren and I got to sneak away for a celebration in So Cal. We joined my family in congratulating my uncle on his retirement from the LA Fire Department. The fun included a ride on a fire boat and a fire engine, along with a delicious lunch and yummy cake. I took a whole bunch of pictures and put them all up at our photo site. (Password: alittleweyel)
