Summer Goodness

God is so good. It's been a crazy summer, filled with home-remodeling chaos, a grumpy 2-year-old, and not enough free time. And yet all I am thinking of now is the good, because God is faithful to remind me of the lovely, sweet moments. Here are some of those...

Family movie night. This was way back in May, so I don't even remember what movie we were watching. But does it really matter? (And I love seeing the old kitchen in the background because it doesn't look like that anymore!)

Gary and I got a few days away at the beginning of the summer. Can you tell where we went? Many thanks to all of the grandparents who made this possible. I'm already longing for the next getaway!

Jon completed his first soccer class, which ended in June. He and Daddy would go every Saturday morning. I can't say Jon was a natural, but he mostly enjoyed it and he did make a goal on his first day!

Daddy-Daughter "smelling date." Gary made up clues and Lauren had to guess what things they were going to smell around town. My kids are so blessed to have such a creative dad!
Sprinkler fun--although this summer has been so cool that there weren't many days for this. That's okay, Lauren only likes it for about 5 minutes, and Jon spends the whole time sitting on Mommy's lap.

When did this girl start looking so old? (And yes, the poor thing got a haircut after this!)
LOTS of popsicles. After this day, we made the rule that popsicles can only be eaten outside.
First drive-in movie! Lauren loved it, and Jonathan was interested for about the first 2 minutes. Then he wanted to play in the car. Thankfully we bought popcorn and brought lots of treats to hold him out until the end. However, the poor guy's diaper leaked through his jammies and we didn't bring an extra pair, so he had to drive home mostly naked. :)

Lauren did a beautiful job at her ballet recital in July. Her class did a Hawaiian song, and she wasn't even that nervous in spite of the 200 parents in the audience. Sorry, these are horrible pictures, but all that I have. You'll just have to trust me that she's the tall girl in the middle. (The video hasn't made it onto the computer yet.) Afterward we went to dinner at Carl's Jr. to celebrate. ;)

And Jonathan likes to use pieces of her costume for dress up. :)
Lauren also completed a gymnastics class this summer. She definitely won't be going pro in this sport--she's just too long and lean to be a gymnast. But she had fun, learned to be brave in trying new things, and is now practicing her cartwheels. (Once again, I only have bad pictures of this, mainly because parents watch from the mezzanine behind a fence. But here she is--in the very center--trying the high bar for the first time.)
Mommy and Lauren got to have a special "date night" together, too. We went to see the Smurf movie, followed by dinner at McDonald's and shopping at Target. I love spending time with this girl. It will be tough to have her back in school in a few weeks.
And with that, you are up-to-date. All that's left is a whole bunch of pictures of our kitchen remodel--which is moving right along, thankfully. We still have to put in the new floor (which will be a giant task in itself) and finish some other details, but then I will be glad to share the whole beautiful thing with you! I am back at work as of tomorrow (yikes!) and back to teaching next week. Jonathan will start a new preschool next Tuesday (and you are more than welcome to pray for a smooth transition for him), and then Lauren will start first grade the week after. I can't believe the summer is gone already, but I'm thankful for so many good memories!

P.S. Jonathan peed in the potty for the first time tonight! We have been waiting a long time for this one... hooray!
