An Ooter Update

Did you know that one of Jon's nicknames is Ooter? (Please note, there is no H in front of that word!) Since he has a speech delay, he would only make sounds for quite a while, and even then it was the same sounds over and over again. One of his favorites was, "Ooooooooot" and so we began to call him Ooter or Oots. Just a little glimpse into the silliness at the Weyel house. :)

Anyway, soon after writing this post about the latest with Jon, he seemed to make even more leaps forward. Within days, he was using the potty all by himself and even pooping in the appropriate place! ;) I think he was just trying to prove me wrong after I whined about him on the internet. It has been AWESOME to have two potty-trained kids, who just go to the bathroom whenever they need to. He is still in diapers at night, but I can easily deal with that. I am just thankful to have potty-training behind us!

With that issue finally checked off the list, we decided to change his crib into a "big boy bed." Yep, our giant 3-year-old was still sleeping in his crib! Of course he was able to climb out of it, but he mostly didn't and he seemed to really like the security of his bed. So we let him stick with it until he just looked ridiculously large in it. See?

He has a crib that converts into a toddler bed, so it was as simple as taking off one side and replacing it with bumpers so he doesn't fall out at night.

So far he has done great. He doesn't get out at night and waits until we tell him it's okay to get up in the morning. I know that won't last long, but we're enjoying it for now.

One last Ooter update... He finally got a real haircut. This is only the second time we've had his hair cut by a barber (instead of cutting it ourselves) because he has hated anyone touching his hair. But that has gotten a bit better, so Daddy took him for another shorter haircut. Now we can see his eyes and ears!

Jon finished the school year at preschool before Memorial Day, but he'll be going back to the same class this summer. He does well when we stick to his routine, so summer school seemed like a great option. He starts mid-June and we are all looking forward to it!
