You know that old saying, the days are long but the years are short? It couldn't feel more true right now. I watched Lauren during her last few moments of first grade yesterday and kept thinking, isn't she still in kindergarten? But nope, this amazing, smart, beautiful girl is officially done with first grade and ready for second!
Her class had a couple of year-end celebrations that we got to enjoy with her, starting with a poetry recital last week. Each student memorized a short poem, and then the class sang several songs together. I love that she would bounce along with the songs, knew every word and every hand motion, and was not (yet) embarrassed to sing her little heart out for us. :)
Lauren has been counting down the days until summer, so she was quite excited yesterday morning! I remember the joy of having an entire summer with no school stretched out before you, and it was fun to relive that through her.
By the way, this girl is getting a beautiful tan and lovely natural blond highlights in her hair. How did she get so lucky?? It certainly didn't come from her mom! ;)
Her teachers invited parents to join them for an ice cream social at the end of the day. They started with the class going around the circle and each student said their favorite thing about first grade. Lauren said, "I loved everything about first grade!"
We are so thankful that Lauren had two amazing teachers this year, who team-taught the class. Mrs. Smith is an experienced teacher who knows how to make each child feel special.
And Ms. Emrick is a young teacher with lots of energy and fun ideas.
Lauren had great friends in her class, too.
I'm sure you know how incredibly proud we are of this girl, and how thankful we are for the blessing of a wonderful first grade year. And now, we're ready for a summer of fun!
